SUMMARY:A Crucial Moment for Medicaid: How to Help
DESCRIPTION:Medicaid coverage leads to better health outcomes: saving lives\, lowering costs\, making childbirth safer\, reducing medical debt\, and strengthening state economies. The program is a bedrock of state and local economies\, supporting healthcare jobs and providing vital funding to hospitals—strengthening communities for everyone\, even those not covered by Medicaid. \n\n\n\nMillions of people are expected to lose access to healthcare coverage due to new federal Medicaid work requirements\, alongside changes to open enrollment—jeopardizing health and equity for all. \nJoin a discussion about strategies community-based organizations and others can deploy to preserve Medicaid enrollment. The conversation will explore: \n\n\n\nNew federal policies affecting Medicaid\nThe critical role Medicaid can play in advancing equity\nHow barriers to enrollment are rooted in structural racism\nHow community leaders can work together to help people stay covered\n\n\n\n\nConvened by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation\, The Intersection brings together people who work inside and outside of healthcare to build anti-racist health systems. It’s a place where community and justice advocates\, healthcare providers\, and public health experts can share their experiences\, provide feedback on how to tackle challenges\, and talk about what’s working.

SUMMARY:Health is a Human Right: Preserving Access to Health: Voices on Food Security and Health Equity
DESCRIPTION:Recent legislation—particularly HR1\, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act—has significantly affected food equity across the United States. HR1 introduced deep cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)\, tightened eligibility requirements\, and increased administrative costs for states\, making it harder for millions of families—especially in vulnerable and rural communities—to access affordable\, nutritious food. These changes are expected to increase hunger and deepen disparities\, especially among older adults\, people with disabilities\, children\, and working families. \nBy contrast\, previous initiatives like the Build Back Better Act aimed to strengthen food and health equity by expanding nutrition programs and investing in community health\, but these protections and expansions have been overshadowed by the rollback in HR1. The current policy environment highlights the urgent need for communities to come together\, share stories\, and advocate for restorative\, equitable solutions so that access to food and healthcare remains a right\, not a privilege. \nThis meeting will bring together leaders\, advocates\, and community voices to discuss the impacts\, explore solutions\, and inspire collective action to advance food and health equity for all. \nRSVP:  https://bit.ly/HumanRight2
