David Berger, MD, MHCM, FACS has more than 25 years of healthcare leadership experience at several academic institutions, and leads the University Hospital at Downstate (UHD) and its inpatient and outpatient services, accountable care organizations, community health centers, home care, and other related entities.

David Berger, MD, MHCM, FACS has more than 25 years of healthcare leadership experience at several academic institutions, and leads the University Hospital at Downstate (UHD) and its inpatient and outpatient services, accountable care organizations, community health centers, home care, and other related entities. He provides operational and fiscal oversight for UHD and oversees the development and implementation of hospital-wide policies and procedures that promote quality patient care and patient satisfaction.

A Brooklyn native, Dr. Berger holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Harpur College at SUNY Binghamton and a master’s degree in healthcare management from Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He received his medical degree and completed a general surgery residency at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. Additionally, he completed a fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
